GRUB VON KRAMPUS!!
Happy Holidays from Krampus and St. Nick!
Krampus is the dark counterpart of Saint Nicholas. St. Nicholas rewards good kids with gifts and treats; and never punishes naughty children, parceling out this task to a ghastly helper from below. Krampus, is unmistakably darker; he often appears as a traditional red devil with cloven hoof and goatish horns, although he can also be spotted as an old bearded wild-man or a huge hairy beast. He comes to punish the naughty children, and is often depicted carrying them in chains or in a basket to a fiery place below.
Santa's all well and good, but darker things lurk in the woods. Krampus brings switches and bad dreams to the misbehaving children, threatening more than just a lump of coal....
Although its distant pagan origins are mostly repressed, Christmas gift-giving and its folklore and customs still embody the pre-Christian European winter solstice tradition. In the dark recesses of our cultural consciousness, the link between the Goat-horned Devil and Saint Nick is clear. If we are naughty, the potent holiday devil archetype who rules over this age-old festival season will come calling!
ok im scared into being good for the holiday season.... should be a first or me. ha.
ReplyDeleteWhoisAnn,
ReplyDeleteHeehee, there is a first time for everything! I'm still naughty, but I'm hoping by getting my pals to be good (or scaring them into being good) That good ol Krampus will take it easy on me and maybe send a good word on to Santa heehee
thats betting on a lot isnt it. Ha. So just how bad are you? :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not bad I'm naughty. And really when you think about it, without naughty there can be no good, so it must be good to be naughty sometimes
ReplyDeletehe is kinda scary though. When I saw the posting title, I laughed, cuz I thought it was a cute maybe even made up name or something.. Grub von Krampus, sounds funny, but mmm, yes, he's actually awful Where did you learn about the darker side of Coca-Cola's main man, sandy claus?
ReplyDeleteGrub Von Krampus means Greetings from Krampus heehee. I found out about him when I was a kid around 10 or so because of this book a teacher of mine had about holiday traditions around the world. There is also some one called "Black Peter" I think that is basically the same thing, only he looks more like Santa dresses in black. Krampus shows up about two weeks before Xmas and people dress up as him to encourgae kids to be good else they get a lump of coal or worse!!
