Peace or Annihilation

My New Painting

Hope for Peace in 2010

I did this as a Christmas Gift for my cousin Fred. I used spray paint and acyrlic and of course the ever popular Sharpie for the lettering. The words are from A Perfect Circle song, Annihilation
From dehumanization
to arms, production
for the benefit of the nation
or it's destruction?

Power is power
the law of the land,
those living for death
will die by their own hand.

life's no ordeal
if you come to terms.
Reject the system
dictating the norms

From dehumanization
to arms,production
to hasten the nation
towards it's destruction.

it's your choice
your choice
your choice
your choice:
peace, or annihilation?

The lyrics are something similar to what I always tell my cousin. I want his generation to be better, to care more and maybe one day we can have the peace we've always sought. Peace through reason and understanding rather than seeking peace out with war. I recently received a letter from a soldier in Afghanistan. (I am part of a letter writing team that sends personalized letters to deployed troops) The words he wrote only confirm my feelings:
"Killing people is by no means fun, even if they are terrorists, and it seems to me to be a very short term answer to a potentially very long term problem. The only hope for this country are it's kids. They have to be safe and educated. If we lose the kids, we lose the war. It's unfortunate more people don't realize that."
If we lose the kids, we lose the war. That applies to everyday life in any part of the world. No matter what the war that is being fought maybe, against hunger, poverty, lack of education. The world needs to realize that we should war against the problems, not war againt the people.

Wow I can't believe it's aready been 100 posts! When I started this blog, I never thought I would actually be able to keep posting weekly. This post is dedicated to the person encouraged me to start a blog:

Check out her art, it's full of color and whimsy. I have several pieces by her that seem to cheer up my living room.  She's amazing and her work is great. So....
Thank you Jen for getting me to do this blog and helping me to focus more on my art!
Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art
